Allegiance University Offering Seminars To Area Businesses
Upper Merion, PA, September 20, 2008 (The Times Herald) – Class will soon be in session at Allegiance University.
If you associate the name Allegiance with banking rather than an institute of higher learning where you can earn a degree, you'd be right.
Headquartered in Bala Cynwyd, the bank is launching a series of seminars, beginning with "Retirement Benefits for the Business Owner" on Sept. 24 at the Berwyn Branch, 564 Lancaster Avenue, Berwyn.
"What we're calling Allegiance University are free educational business classes for customers and the community," noted CEO and President Gregg Wagner. "We're inviting associates of the bank to teach their expertise to a group of current customers or prospects or anyone within the small business world."
The retirement benefits seminar is being conducted by Walsh & Nicholson, a wealth management firm in Wayne.
"We're here to teach the small business person what is out there in an environment that is open and also provide them the opportunity to ask questions," Wagner said. "This class will teach small business owners how they can offer the best 401k and retirement plans to their employees."
Invitations were sent out to dozens of businesses in the area, Wagner added.
Registration is being accepted via the Web site, www.allegbank.com.
"We had people signing up even before we started advertising it," Wagner said. "Our primary focus right now are the small business companies and we feel we have the products that can really help them. We look at what we do more as consulting, trying to find out what our customers needs are and trying to fit our banking products into those needs."
With branches in King of Prussia, Worcester and Old City, Allegiance offers additional non-bank services, including financial planning, life and health insurance and retirement programs.
Introduced last spring, the popular Star Reward checking has increased deposits and generated new customers, Wagner noted.
"The reward checking account pays retail customers 5 percent interest on deposits up to $50,000 if they meet certain criteria on a monthly basis," he explained.
"They have to use their ATM card 10 times, or have either direct deposit or a bill payment once a month, and also have to receive their statement via the Internet, so it's kind of a green product too."
A seminar is in the works for the King of Prussia branch, Wagner indicated.
"These things tend to turn into business networking opportunities for a lot of people," he said. "I really enjoy these get-togethers with customers."
